US news - Name Change and Party Goals - May 05

So, for starters I have changed the name of the party slightly. Too often people look at the names of a party and associate them with their real-life counterparts. Lets face it, right now the Republican Party IRL is not all that popular and some may have been associating it with that.

I have contended for nearly 4 months now that associating real-life political views with a party here is completely undoable. The Democrats cannot vote Pro-Life here, because that does not exist in Erepublik. They cannot vote for "moral and just change" because there is no way to be immoral or unjust in a nation as diverse and independant as ours. If Nave and the US government tried to initiate ways to oppress our citizens through taxes and such, the owners could revolt against him. There's no way to control everyone, so those platforms dont exist.

What I offer is different simply because it's involvement. Thats what has improved our country over the last few months, not center-right or center-left. I ask that you, the citizen, look past the name of a party and into the person who runs it, the group who participates in it, and the feelings behind it. There will be change this coming elections, and that can start at any moment. You can change yourself for the eBetter right now, whether you consider yourself Democrat or Republican in RL has no bearing on that, and I can offer it to you. It's up to you to put in the work.

So, we are going to be eRepublicans for Change, partly because we are fresh of the heels of the closest election in months and partly because I did want to keep part of the name so I didnt offend some of the older members.

The kicker is that when they started this party, they associated it center-left anyway. No one cared then and I left it alone because I was new to the position. I am now going to change it to it's correct affiliations, simply for kicks.

My point is that it doesnt matter what side you affiliate with. The eRepublicans or the eDemocrats stem from the same beginnings here in Erepublik. We believe in many of the same things and use the same vehicles to accomplish our goals. If you take the time and be smart about your decision, you'd see you're simply associating with a name that suits you more, rather than the ideals that the party can instill.

Moving On

So, now that hopefully thats cleared up a little, we'll move on to our next order of business.

I will re-order the party shortly (as soon as I can figure out the link to see all the member pages, which is currently bugged at the moment). I am going to move some of our older members down in the order and some of the newer members higher up to hopefully inspire some more participation within our ranks. If you dont care what I do with the party and will vote for me, then great. If you read what I have promised and believe that I am the right person for the job, then speak up and let me know. Our party elections were rather paltry in votes, and I have enlisted Mr. Infernalstein to lead our recruiting section.

He has shown through his few days here that he has connections to bring people in, and hopefully with that, we can begin other programs.

Company Programs

I announced earlier today that I was going to sell weapons training. I am still going to sell it, but I am going to do so to someone within the Republican Party so they can "run" it and focus on the employment and security aspect of our party. That way they have a vehicle to offer jobs for newer members, etc. If someone wants to do this, then simply speak up. We can talk any time your ready. If you'd like to buy it outright, then let me know and we can talk about that as well.

U.S. Party Meeting

So, the Democratic Party had their first meeting this weekend. It had a decent turnout, and is a pretty good idea all things considered. I am not sure if the eRepublikans want to attempt this or what your schedules are like. If you do, let me know and we can try to arrange a time. Otherwise, you can always find me if you have something you'd like to discuss either here online or in the chat room.

Local Elections

I would like to remind you all that tomorrow the local elections will take place for the May to June mandate. Please remember to log on and cast your vote for who you think will do the best in each city.

Ideas for Mayors

Once again, I will follow up on the idea that I posted for Mayors in the last edition I released endorsing my candidates for Mayor. You may think that Mayors cannot do anything in Erepublik, but I beg to differ. I would say that the best course at the moment is to find a list of your citizens, and begin gifting programs. After all, it is their tax monies that you have, so why not put it to good use now instead of waiting until you can accumulate for a hospital? Who wouldnt want to boast of the highest regional productivity in Erepublik?

There have been others, such as Patrick Cornell and Justineous (sorry, I usually spell it wrong) that have started their own gifting programs.

Gift Market Boom

When we started the gift program through the Government, we all put together a list. Those people are still not gifted yet there are tons of gifts available on our market. If you are a citizen still in need of wellness, now is the time to question why you are not getting it. Before, we hadnt had full time to prepare for the program. Now the gifts are readily available, so that is no longer the case.

Second official wedding in Erepublik!

Another historical day for the Erepublik community. Yesterday, day 172 of the new world, has been made the second official wedding in Erepublik. The bride was the lovely Allyenna, from Santiago de Compostela, and present Mayoress, and the groom was the bold officer and gentleman Zhuge Liang, a high command of the Spanish Elite Forces, Los Cuervos, also resident in Santiago de Compostela.

The petition was an incredible Declaration of Love that moved all the Spanish ecitizens. Allyenna accepted without hesitation.

The ceremony was held in a beautiful forest near Santiago, before all the citizens gathered. It was midnight when the ceremony began (15:00 Erepublik time), by the wiccan rite.

The ceremony was presided by the priestess Meiko and the priest Cristesco, as well as Aisac who talked in favour of the bride and the groom introducing them for the union. Diarmuid, Vircoph, Salbafer and Sabi2 were the chosen ones to symbolize the Guardians of the fourth cardinal points, devote and bless the union.

Even Alexis Bonte came to the ceremony, and cheered our hearts and hopes.

The vows:

- When one of them is under 90% of wellness, the partner wil offer at least one gift per day.

- When one of them needs money, the partner will offer money without asking anything in exchange.

- Both of them must update their profile with the day of the marriage

- Both must live in the same city. One of them may move to another place for work reasons, but just for a month.

- If one of these conditions is broken, the couple can ask the divorce.

When the ceremony concluded, the party began and all the participants enjoyed fine drinks and excellent friendship.

Interview with the President of Romania

Jakarta – After I spent my time in Argentina’s castle, eRNews then flights directly to Romania in order to investigate the issue more deeper that related to this country. It has been reported by Francis from TDF, with his article over here: http://www.erepublik.com/article-268682.html, it was said that Romania on preparation to war with Ukraina. And it said about the relation with MA, and many things. In order to make it clear, we then contacting Alex Craciun the president of Romania for an interview.

eRNews:
Based on the article made by Francis Hunyadi at http://www.erepublik.com/article-268682.html, he said that Romania are all preparing for the battle.
What preparations actually that your country has done? Is there any preparation for this incoming war?

Alex:
We are indeed preparing for war, I already proposed the war to the congress. We had a lot of discussions before going to war and we took this decision after we analyzed all the implications.

eRNews:
He said that Ukraine is not the target, but it was Hungary, is that true?

Alex:
I think this kind of articles are made by troublemakers. They seek trouble and they love it when they find trouble. Ukraine is our target and I explained in my last article why, the main problem is that we don't need weak neighbours and whenever Ukraine will be up and going they will be free, for now Ukraine is ruled by expats that want only the gold.

eRNews:
And why you change your target?

Alex:
As I already stated an attack against Hungary is not on my list of objectives, so we didn't change any target.

eRNews:
Care to share the reason of this invasion?

Alex:
We will invade Ukraine because of national safety, we don't want an eventual war on our land. We proposed to the ukrainian president 320 gold to start the war and also 330 to be invested in hospitals and houses for every ukrainian, but he refused. It will be hard to strengthen Ukraine because of the wasted gold, but the real ukrainians will thank us for that.

eRNews:
It was said that Romania wish to join MA, is that true? Or MA who want you to join them? And who is the man behind it? :)

Alex:
As Romania is part of Europe it would be normal to join the MA. But in these days there are some problems inside this alliance and we are also preparing the war, so it's not our main objective. We are checking every possibility and we will have an answer this month.

eRNews:
And one last question is that what do you expect from his MA?

Alex:
We expect from MA to be functional. If we will enter an alliance it will be with a written contract and there we will have penalties for not helping each other, in my opinion it's the best way to make it work.

We really grateful to Mr. President who willing to spare his time for us to make clarification on some news that currenly spread all over the world.

That is true that there are many people currently see that MA has potential risk of problems. Spain currently got problem with their money’s scandal where the treasury money has been taken by governor of Spain Bank because his idea is not accepted by government. And there are some weirdness too from some citizens on why only Franch and Italy who declare war to Swiss, and another possibility of the problem is there is no official contract in this MA, so the next president of a country can break relation with MA anytime
But only time can tell which fact is true behind many prejudices

Interview With the Biggest President Party of Argentina

Buenos Aires – few days ago eRNews got facts that the concept of Argentina’s constitution not involve small party to think about it. We then pursue the real facts behind it by interviewing the man behind this constitution. One of them is the president party of PDRA - Pier. Below is the result of our interview.

eRNews
Dear Pier,
Im n3m0 from eRnews (www.erepubliknews.com), I knew that you have released constitution of Argentina, but i saw on the thread that your party didnt involve smaller party to make that constitution, do you have any opinion on this?
If they(smaller party) refuses to sign it, do you will push them to use it?
what is the affect of this incident to your country? do they really matter for your country?

Pier:
Hi n3m0, the constitution of Argentina was spoken weeks ago in the official forum of eArgentina and written in the news for those who don"t have access to the forum. The citizens who don"t like this, they have the opportunity to change that in the news or the forum, weeks ago.
And Joim says that, because this is done to grab him . He steal 450GOLDS from national treasure and thousands of ARS. It was known that he wouldn"t like this for that..
And if I do this is because I love my country and I don"t want corruption in it.

eRNews:
i see...
So, you mean he is the only one who deny this constitution then?
and does he ever give the money back?

Pier:
There are many congressman inactive if you see the proposals only vote 7 or 11. Because of that , the constitutions was put in the news and forum so everyone can agree or reject that. and citizens were telling me that wanted to make it official.
No the admins says , that the only way who stop him is if we have a law.

In order to maintain the neutrality, we interviewed the opponent of this constitution as well. His name is Joimzhando, ex president of Argentina and the one that being talked by Pier all this time.

eRNews:
Dear joimzhando,
i am n3m0 from www.erepubliknews.com
I have interviewed pier related to constitution that not agreed by you, due to maintain the neutrality, i need some feedback from you also
He said that he put that constitution in forum openly so everyone can make correction on it, and this has been discussed weeks ago, what is your opinion on this?
He also mention that you take away the money from treasury, do you mind to clarify on this?
And what is your opinion with Pier"s policy, is it good or not?

Joimzhando
First of all, I have to tell you what happened between Pier"s group and me that led me to taking the Gold from the country.

The first 4 months Argentina was almost empty, just me and my friends lived here. Most of them started leaving dure to boreness. Countrie"s gold was all given by us, from the "first citizens" gold and invites.

Later on, a lot of people coming from another web game, a close community came. They abused the party system and stole my party. I had to create a new one.

Since they were a lot more they were going to gain the elections (as they did) so I took the gold to avoid them to waste it stupidly, since their actions had shown me they had no idea of playing at all (as if they could rule a country with two weeks of gameplay experience).

They came, started asking a lot, stole the party and then took control of the country.

They say they discussed the constitution on the forum... THEIR forum, in which I cannot enter due to bans, they
They simply made the constitution as they wanted by their team, only their party.

Pier policy is not that bad, but their idea of ruling a country still sucks. e-Argentina was in a better position when we were 10 players and I was the president.

Also to mention, they used another game weakness to steal my new party

That’s the answer from the opponent. Where is the Argentina at the future?

Romania - friend or foe?

Let start with the beginning….
“We all play this game for fun, we have fun by winning, we win by taking the romanian historical teritories from Bulgary (Cadrilaterul) and from Ukraine (a part of Bucovina). And with Bulgary, we will have Hungary aswell, I know that many of you are waiting for this.”

(Alex Craciun in his speech running for presidency - source )

As you can see, from the first day of Alex Craciun’s mandate, Romania decided to go to war. Lets’s talk about the options:

1. Hungary - had an MPP with Austria.

2. Bulgary - Romania has and will have for a long time an MPP with them.

3. Ukraine - had an MPP with Turkey.

(this part of the article is based also on messenger discussions, so I can’t give you the all the sources)

Our people wanted a real challenge…. so Hungary was the first topic of discussion (source). After some private and public discussions, Romania received notice from the MA that Austria and Hungary will join them, so this plan was not viable anymore.

After this, romanian citizens talked about a day about attacking Bulgary. Not being a backstabbing nation, everybody declared very quickly that canceling the MPP is not an option.

This is how Romania decided to declare war on Ukraine, even if they had the MPP with Turkey (a country that at that time had an MPP with Romania also).

The war started; I think everybody knows this part: our MPP with Turkey was cancelled automatically…. the war with Ukraine transformed into a war with Turkey. Nothing new to say in this part….

Two things happened with the assimilation of Ukraine by Romania:

- the alliance/friendship between Romania and Turkey was broken for an undetermined period of time;

“We are not willing to attack other countries any time soon, although Turkey’s attitude towards us would entitle us to further action. We are merciful.”

(Titu Maiorescu - Prime Minister of Romania - source)

- Romania will not declare war on any country for an undetermined period of time (Alex Craciun also stated this publicly and, besides that, at this moment, Romania doesn’t have the GOLD for it).

So… Romania is a friend or foe? Nobody can answer that question right now, because Romania hasn’t decided yet in which of the three major alliances to enter. Resulting from the facts presented by Dishmcds in his editorial, entering one of them automatically decides for whom Romania will be a friend and for what countries it will be a foe.

To sum up, here is the interesting question: in which of the alliances will Romania enter?

Regarding South Africa in eRepublik

The reason I kicked up such a fuss about what was happening in South Africa prior to the elections of May 1st was mainly because I thought it had the possibility to set an unwelcome precedent in the geopolitics of the Erepublik world.

A few points to make before I explain more about why I had this concern:

1) People move around in Erepublik and many countries are populated and even governed by people who did not start off their life as a citizen of the new world in that country.
2) Some countries have been taken over by groups of people who have left from one country, started or taken over a political party, and then voted that party into power in the general elections.
3) Quite often the 'native' epopulation of a country are not from that country in real life.

Examples of 2) include Poland (from America), Ukraine (from Turkey I believe), Switzerland (Canada), China (Indonesia) and Thailand (various, including UK and Sweden). Austria, India, South Korea have all at one time had groups emigrate from Sweden. Most nutoriously Voxx became president of Austria and then stole over 1000G from the nation's treasury!

Examples of 3) include Russia, Austria now (which is basically e-Slovenia), India, and of course Pakistan.

Twice previously countries have also declared war on a neighbour country because they wanted to merge with the larger neighbour. This happened early in April with both Belgium (to the UK) and Moldova (to Romania). The same also happened to Slovakia (to Czech Republic) although that wasn't their intention when they declared war!!!

So individuals and groups have always moved around in Erepublik and some times this has led to a change of government. This has most often happened when a group of friends got tired of being small fish in a big pond (especially Sweden) and wanted to have a go at running their own country. Most often they have gone to countries that are virtually inactive and I think this is on the whole good for those countries. On some occasions though such moves have caused conflict with the 'native' population and the ensuing native v newcomer fight isn't always pleasant.

Why bother about South Africa?
My concern with what was happening in South Africa was that this was going to be the first time a country would be taken over in a political coup:
1) under the direction of the *government* of a major eWorld power (ie Indonesia)
2) for the purpose of annexing that country through military means.

I was aware that Pakistan was doing the very same thing with China but trying to bring diplomatic and community pressure against Pakistan is pretty pointless as they don't really care what the rest of the world thinks anyway.

A change of heart?
But this is not the case with Indonesia! The response from the Indonesian community to my forum post was quite surprising. Many were upset and even offended by the suggestion they were 'cheating' or using 'underhand' tactics to improve their position.

Some unkind words were said in that thread about Indonesia (and Sweden) but not by me. And I certainly did not want to cause anyone offense.

But since the outcry at the plan I have been impressed with how the Indonesians have responded in follow up to their succesful coup in South Africa. They clearly do care about their international reputation as a country.

mamangbakso - the new South African President, originally from Indonesia, has taken steps to ensure that South Africa will actually remain independent and promises to keep South Africa neutral. We shall see...

Initiatives have also been launched to improve the economy:
South Arica - The Cooperative
South Africa Today

I hope this will continue and that the Indonesian government will not take advantage of South Africa's vulnerability (with it's MPPs being cancelled - why was that necessary?) to invade the country.

Conclusion
So was my objection based on some 'moral' imperative? Or was I showing inconsistency by not condemning ALL political takeovers? No and no. My objection was because this was the first time such a tactic was being used by a government in order to then take a country over by military means.

Small countries have some chance to defend themselves militariliy against larger powers by forming an MPP. But against such a form of political attack there is NO defence other than getting a friendly country to also ship people in to vote. And I really don't want to see us having to go down that road.

If a country does get taken over politically, if in the future more people join that country from the real life country then the nation will soon be back in 'native' control. But this cannot happen if the country has been taken over by (unfair) military means. The only way to do so is via Fight for Freedom, a module which isn't released yet.

So good luck to South Africa, wherever you are from originally. I hope the newcomers from Indonesia will be able to live in blissful harmony with the natives. Enjoy the cricket, rugby and most of all the braais :)

Economic League Table April 19th

Data collected on Apr 19, 2008
Again - a very strong set of figures across the board and more clear evidence of rising inflation. Most people have (quite understandably) been so focussed on the war module that by large people don't seem to realise that Erepublik's global economy is actually functioning better than ever!! That in spite of a few lingering bugs - not just around the war module.
I'm still desperately trying to find time to write more in depth articles about the global economy but real life doesn't seem to allow me the luxury at the moment!
Figures are for the top 20 in population as per the start of the month but I am not starting to track Hungary which actually has more population than Ireland.
%age change is from the report on April 1st.

For the first time ever, all countries in the ELT show positive economic growth! Austria and Italy come top due mostly to their surging popluation. The big winners among the established economic powers though are Indonesia and Romania.
Indonesia is an interesting case and I was wondering why their economy is suddenly doing so well... For many months Indonesia's economy had been underforming, in my view largely due to an overemphasis on food production. The oversupply in the global economy meant that food prices we very low compared to other products. With the dramatic turnaround in the global economy from a situation of overproduction to underproduction food is suddenly in short supply in many countries and Indonesian exporters have had a chance to make big bucks!

If you ever needed proof that we are currently seeing serious global inflation here it is! Never before have prices been increasing so fast. Governments will now need to be very careful with taxation levels and devaluing their currency (a favourite tactic in several countries it seems...). Whilst inflation is harmful it is certainly a much better problem to have to deal with than the serious deflation most economies had been facing in previous months.

Expect to see Italy and Austria rise from the bottom as their workforce gains in skill and productivity. And will Romania manage to turn it's recent boost in population in productive workers?

I will be waiting your request of invitations to join eRepublik. I still have got some invitations available. Also, if there is anyone who has invitations to offer, this is the meeting place!

Next version of Erepublik

Next version of Erepublik
The next version of Erepublik will bring many new features requested by Citizens and some very interesting modifications within the gameplay. We will reveal some of them as we approach the launch date, but we will also keep some secrets to make it more interesting. We will constantly keep you updated with the work in progress for this new version. But main goals will be to maximize fun, simplicity / ease of use and performance (including less bugs) without sacrificing depth.
Taking into consideration that building the new version involves almost the entire team, we decided to focus more on the quality of the new version. Meanwhile, on the current version, we will continue to administrate and fix the bugs and work on performance tuning but won’t be making major improvements. We won’t reset the current Erepublik facts when launching V1 so the story continues.
Other issues:- The military rank is now working and Citizens that fought in battles will now be able to see their progress in the military section on their profile page.- We gave 3 more invites to Citizens who had no invitations left. Another set of invites will be given next week for all Citizens (as long as performance is ok)- This week 1000 more invites were sent to people from the waiting list;- There was a problem with the database that affected the private messages system, but now everything should be OK.
Thanks from the ErepublikLive team.

Did you know how important eRepublik is?

Did you hear that Finland was conquered by Norway in eRepublik and that Sweden is the most powerful state?
